Global RFid Passport Encryption standard hacked within two hours by a Dutch company

A security firm of Netherlands and a TV program came together to decrypt a Dutch prototype RFid passport successfully. Within two hours officials from Nieuwslicht and Riscure intercepted, stored and cracked the password encrypted on an RFid tagged passport. This allowed access to the photograph, digitized fingerprint and other plain text and encrypted data on the passport. This would require Dutch officials to back to the drawing board in order to make their RFid passport encryptions more secure. This revelation has also triggered bells for U.S. officials as American passports also share the same RFid tag and encryption scheme.
