RSI ID Technologies, which is a California-based vendor, is making Gen 2 labels available for less than 15 cents a tag for order quantities of one million or greater. The company is following this aggressive pricing for the ready-to-use labels as it believes that Gen 2 tags are the future and the industry has to get used to it as soon as possible.
The company manufactures its own inlays; this helps them to save on costs. The labels can work in compatibility with any printer that the end-user may have and are available in a roll format. The labels are available in two sizes, 4 x 2 or 4 x 6, with a permanent acrylic emulsion adhesive. The pricing is the same for both sizes.
The company has also built a roadmap for achieving a pricing of less than 10 cent per tag by December 2006. It basically involves high-volume orders with firm delivery dates. Clients who place an order of 100,000 tags and above receive a Gen 2 compliance package that contains an RFID printer/encoder and related software.
