Buscom, which provides transportation applications, is trialing an upgrade to its fare collection system. Under the trial, bus commuters will be able to use their NFC-enabled Nokia phones to pay for their travel instead of using transit smart cards. rfidjournal.com reports:
The Nokia phones will use NFC, which operates at 13.56 MHz, to communicate with existing but upgraded smart card interrogators (readers) installed on the bus.
