Tracking students in Japan

The Rikkyo Elementary school in Tokyo is collaborating with Fujitsu Electronics in conducting a trial in which 40 students are being tracked using RFID chips. The RFID tags, which can be affixed to books, bags, etc, transmit details as the students enter and exit the school gates. The tags can be read by scanners from a distance of up to 10 feet. gizmag.co.uk reports:

Parents get the data directly on their mobile telephone and can be notified that their children arrived safely at the school.
