What will happen to RFID middleware?

RFID middleware market is facing challenges that are putting a question mark on the role of middleware in the evolution of RFID. Since the cost of RFID middleware software license has come down substantially it is becoming very difficult for the vendors to convince their clients to pay high license fee for pure RFID middleware. Emergence of open source movements which can produce standardized RFID middleware free of cost is also posing problems. The major challenge is coming from RFID hardware. The second generation readers will spell doomsday for RFID middleware. Until and unless RFID middleware reinvents itself it is bound to fail.
