Cost of RFID tags a minus in the food industry

While other industries, led by the government agencies, hospitality, pharmaceutical, retailing and automotive industries have gone about enthusiastically implementing RFID projects to fine-tune supply chain problems among other things, the food industry is somewhat behind in RFID deployment. The reason is easy to gauge.

The tags are a bit pricey now and attaching them to, say, fast perishing items are a no-no. In one of our earlier posts, we had pointed out the obstacles in RFID and said that cost is a big factor.
