The end of Generation 1 RFID

Wal-Mart has announced that it will not accept EPC Gen 1 tags attached to the cases and pallets the retailer receives from its suppliers, after June 30, 2006.  Moreover, Wal-Mart will soon start testing RFID-enabled forklifts at six of the retailer's RFID-enabled Sam's Club locations.

Moreover, Wal-Mart has upgraded its proprietary middleware platform, and now it can manage the readers and process data from Gen 2 tags.
