An RFID lab is being constructed at the Oakton Community College. The lab will help implement an RFID curriculum, which is being developed for the students of the college. The lab, which is expected to be ready in time for the fall 2006 semester, is being developed with the help of various RFID vendors who are providing the hardware, software, and integration services. Stratum Global will contribute its TagNet RFID middleware that will be used by the students for establishing business rules for processing tag data and managing RFID interrogators.
RFID smart labels will be made available by William Frick and Co. The hardware will consist of the IF5 fixed interrogators; IP3 portable readers; and antennas provided by Intermec. Oakton also has plans to institute an RFID certification program for those who wish to learn about the subject for career benefits.
